Preparation of Surface
The surface must be clean, stable, and free from dust, loose particles, grease, oil, primers from previous membrane systems, or bitumen. Any bitumen or primer should be removed by cutting back to solid concrete and repaired with suitable repair mortars. Prochem Repairing Mortars from the patch series are ideal for this purpose. Cracks, holes, and honeycombs must be properly repaired as well. Ensure all surfaces are thoroughly repaired before application. For brick or block walls to be coated with Aqua Shield Pro 007 waterproofing, the brick joints should be evenly finished.
Preparation of Product
The Waterproofing Membrane is provided in pre-measured units. Gradually add the polymer powder to the liquid and mix using a slow-speed drill with a paddle attachment until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved. If necessary, water can be added up to 5% of the total mix. Avoid reworking any stiffened mixture by adding water. Only prepare as much as can be used within 30 to 60 minutes. In hotter climates, the working time may be shorter.
Application
Saturate the concrete surface with clean water. Apply the first coat while the surface is still damp, ensuring it is free from standing water. Use a short, stiff-bristle brush or roller to apply the coat at a thickness of 1-2mm, depending on the expected water pressure. Achieve the required thickness by applying 2 to 3 layers, ensuring each layer does not exceed 1mm. Allow the first coat to dry for 2 to 3 hours before applying the second coat. The second coat can be smoothed with a soft sponge. Spray or trowel application is also acceptable, provided the mixing ratio is adjusted to achieve the correct consistency.
Allow the final coat of Aqua Shield Pro 007 to cure overnight. Keep it moist for 3-4 days before conducting waterproofing flood tests. For hollow blocks or highly porous areas, it is recommended to apply a minimum of 3 to 4 coats, each at 1mm thickness.
